ABOUT OUR PASTOR

 Pastor Benny Bagwell

 

Dr. Benny Bagwell has been the pastor of the Victory Baptist Church of Sylva, North Carolina Since March of 1989. He has pastored VBC longer than any other pastor in the church's history. Pastor Bagwell finished his Undergraduate degree in 1974 at Tennessee Temple University in Chattanooga Tennessee and his masters degree in 1982 at Pensacola Christian College in Pensacola Florida.

For eight years he was on the staff of the Franklin Road Baptist Church and Christian School in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, and worked as a teacher & the principal under Dr. Bob Kelly, the pastor. He also served on the staff of the Oakwood Baptist Church and School  in Anderson, South Carolina, as the school Principal for seven years, under Dr. Russell Rice. 

Brother Bagwell is currently serving on the Board of Directors and Executive Committee of Ambassador Baptist College in Lattimore, North Carolina.  He also serves on the Board of the North Carolina Christian School Association.  He is involved in the community as the volunteer chaplain of the Savannah Fire Department & the chaplain of the Jackson County Sheriff's Department.

Pastor Bagwell was married in February of 1972 to Beth Cummings. They have 3 children: Beneth, Benita & Ben all of which attended Tennessee Temple University. Mrs. Bagwell was reared as a missionary's daughter in Mexico, but finished High School at Bob Jones Academy in Greenville, SC. The Bagwells also have 5 grandchildren.

Officials at Ambassador Baptist College honored Pastor Bagwell with an honorary doctorate, at the2007 Commencement Exercise. Brother Bagwell gave the charge to the 2007 graduates, and later receive a Doctorate of Divinity. We are very proud of our preacher and realize that this is an honor which is justly deserved.
